IRVINE, CA—Broadcom's new Great Park office campus will incorporate outdoor plazas, walkways, bike paths, outdoor meeting areas and other elements that will help promote employee health, VP global real estate Ken Schotl tells GlobeSt.com exclusively. We spoke with Schotl following the recent groundbreaking of new 1.1-million-square-foot campus site located at the northeast corner of Barranca Pkwy. and Alton Pkwy. here, which will be ready for initial occupancy in late 2017/early 2018.
GlobeSt.com: Why did you decide on Great Park Neighborhoods for the new headquarters?
Schotl: Broadcom enjoys a partnership with Irvine as one of the city's most-prominent employers, and this will continue to be an important partnership as the new campus comes to life. The acreage in the Great Park also gives the company space to grow. It allows for long-term employee headcount needs and expanded lab space for business growth. It's easily accessible to public transportation and freeways. Broadcom's new campus will integrate with the surrounding landscape and environment by incorporating outdoor plazas, walkways, bike paths and outdoor meeting areas—all elements that help promote encourage employee well-being.
GlobeSt.com: What will the new campus have that makes it stand out?
Schotl: Broadcom employees have played a significant role in designing the campus. Several teams have shared input to make sure the new workplace incorporates the elements it needs to foster creativity and innovation.
GlobeSt.com: What else should our readers know about this campus?
Schotl: Sustainability is a priority in the campus design, both inside and out, and the campus will be LEED-certified. The campus will feature drought-tolerant landscaping. Development labs and workspaces will minimize energy use and increase power and material efficiency.
