HIGH POINT, NC-The 24-acre manufacturing facility will be built across from another four-building plant operated by Brayton Co. on Swathmore Road. The estimated hard construction cost of the project is $17 million. High Point is 70 miles north of Downtown Charlotte.

TACOMA, WA-The 13.7-acre property in the heavy-industrial waterfront area here was the only such parcel that Simpson had not yet developed. The subsidiary of Seattle-based Simpson Investment Company owns about 150 acres here, including a timber mill.

SAN JOSE-The City Council decides tonight whether a citywide vote on the 20,000-worker development should occur. Opponents who gathered enough signatures for such a vote want a "yes" vote. The city's attorney says the petition is technically invalid and should be ignored.

BOSTON-Recent city assessments increase the value of the land that comprises the site of the proposed new ballpark in Fenway. The team has been struggling to finance its share of the project and the increase in land values further complicates their plans.

LIVERMORE, CA-Calpine Corp. is proposing a natural gas plant near here that would supply electricity to more than one million homes in the East Bay and San Joaquin County. The company's proposal to build in San Jose was shot down last month.
