Globix Corp. Leases 116,000 SF in Tukwila

SEATTLE—Corporate internet services provider Globix Corp.is establishing a large data center at a site just east of Southcenter Mall in Tukwila. The New York City-based Globix has signed a 21-year lease for 116,000 sf in two existing buildings owned by Fatigue Technology Inc. Fatigue Technology, a local aerospace company, is moving to a nearby site.

Globix will start work on the building in a few weeks but won’t fully move in until next summer. The facility will employ 100 to 200 people and will contain up to 2,000 large computers, most of them supporting Web sites for corporate clients. To run those computers, Globix will install equipment including refrigeration, backup batteries and large diesel generators.

Globix, which went public in 1996 and has not yet turned a profit, is one of several Internet-related lease deals that have been made in the South Seattle industrial markets, according to area brokers.
