XM Satellite Radio is the first major technology tenant to moveinto the NOMA area, a warehouse district named for its locationnorth of Massachusetts Avenue. Economic development officials andthe real estate industry have been promoting the area to technologyfirms looking for industrial space capable of accommodating largeamounts of computers and telecommunications equipment.

Interest in the area has grown since last year. The Bureau ofAlcohol Tobacco and Firearms has laid plans for a new headquartersbuilding there, in conjunction with plans for a new Metro subwaystop.

But some properties in the area still struggle to find tenants.The high-profile Jemal Gateway building at New York and FloridaAvenue has been unable to attract a technology tenant because ofproblems with the building and the Woodies warehouse at 131 M St.NE remains unlet.
