SEATTLE—Edmond Meany Hotel, a 16-story landmark in Seattle’s University district, was sold last week by Starwood Hotels & Resorts for about $11.5 million. Seattle-based Washington Hotel LLC was the buyer. The hotel, at 4507 Brooklyn Ave. N.E., opened in 1931. It includes 155 rooms and 5,000 sf of meeting space. Also on site are Pleiades restaurant and Eddie’s News Cafe.

Washington Hotel LLC partners’ Craig Shafer and Alan Battersby are now looking at what improvements can be made to the building. Starwood completed $5 million of renovations of the art deco hotel, formerly known as the Meany Tower, in 1997.

The sale of the Edmond Meany is part of Starwood’s strategy of divesting hotels that do not fall in line with its business plan. The White Plains, NY, company owns and manages hotels under brands such as Westin, Sheraton, Hotel W and St. Regis, and is Downtown Seattle’s biggest hotel operator.
