Lowe’s Cos. Inc., the nation’s second largest home improvement retail chain, is planning a new 143,000-square-foot store in Auburn.

Lowe’s purchased the 12 acres of land where the store is being built in January. It will be located on the southwest corner of 15th Street Northeast and D Street Northeast.

The Auburn store will be the 14th Lowe’s store in Western Washington and the 19th statewide. The Wilkesboro, N.C.-based company purchased the Renton, Wash.-based Eagle Hardware & Garden chain last year and is now converting Eagle stores to Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouses.
