JMI is also the master developer of Downtown San Diego'sfledgling Ballpark District. Another Marriott project, the MarriottSpectrum, is slated to begin construction by Huntington HotelDevelopment soon at the former General Dynamics plant site inKearny Mesa. The project would be finished by the end of nextyear.
San Diego's strong economy, combined with a sharp rise in bothbusiness and leisure travel, has triggered a boom in new hotelprojects throughout the county. Construction of at least ahalf-dozen lodging facilities has started this year, and anotherdozen or so are on the drawing boards.
