Surprisingly, the area that has the least commercial officespace available is not Downtown Stamford. Instead the centralsubmarket consisting of Fairfield, Southport and Westport recordedthe lowest overall vacancy rate for commercial office space at1.4%.

Another noteworthy is that the Bridgeport, Shelton, Stratfordand Trumbull section of the county posted a 9.9% vacancy rate, adecline of more than 50% during the past six months. Also, thecommercial investment sector has mirrored last year's activity.C&W reports that there were 10 recorded sales of major officebuildings in Fairfield during the first half of 2000 as comparedwith 11 by mid-year 1999.
