All told, the proposed development would include a 375,000-sfBloomingdale's, 500,000 sf of other retail, restaurant andentertainment, a nine-screen cinema with seating for 3,000 and thehotel. Los Angeles-based Forest City Development Corp. is theproject developer.
Rosewood, based in Dallas, Texas, could not immediately bereached for comment on their reported interest in the development.After the 92-year-old Emporium building is renovated, Forest Cityis expected to retain control of the remainder of the space, owningand leasing 125,000 sf of retail as well as a nine-screen cinemacomplex and other entertainment areas.
The project recently won approvals from the city RedevelopmentAgency Commission, Planning Commission and Recreation and ParksCommission. A series of hearings before the Board of Supervisors isnext on the agenda.
