During a monthlong restriction on logging due to wildfire dangerthat has just been lifted, some area property owners tried to buythe 340-acre parcel, which sits atop Nason Ridge and overlooks thelake, a recreation destination on the eastern slopes of theCascades.

Friends of Lake Wenatchee Forests offered to buy 340 acres for$1.3 million. Longview Fibre wanted $3.4 million for the land. Nodeal was reached.

The group says it is still talking with Longview Fibre officialsabout a possible land exchange that might prevent the logging. Morelikely, although still a long shot, is a proposal for propertyowners to buy development rights to the land from Longview Fibreafter the logging is complete, thereby preventing plans for ahousing development.
