The new structure, which will cost approximately $500,000 tobuild, will be named Ditter's Town Square as a memorial. Still, thetown is losing its only egg-and-milk stop, and a historic buildingto boot. The nearest grocery store is now two miles away inStayton.

Dixie Barth, who bought the building from the Ditter family withher husband, Guy, doesn't know yet who the tenants of the newstructure will be. She hopes someone will be interested in openinga little general store inside with a deli.

The Ditter Family, which opened the store after arriving on arailroad car in 1890, sold it twice but then bought it back afterthe buyers' businesses failed. They sold it to the Barths in1995.
