R&D Firm Gets Tax Break for $17-Mil Headquarters Project

AUBURN HILLS, MI-The City Council here has approved a tax break for Inergy Automotive to build a 110,000 sf office and technology complex that the company plans to use as its headquarters. The building will be developed at the 68-acre Pinnacle Corporate Park.

William Ross, city manager, says the company, which does research on automotive fuel systems, received a $308,000 tax break for six years. “They have also applied to the state for a grant from Michigan Economic Growth Authority,” Ross says. “After they get state approval, they can come to us with site plans.”

Ross says the company picked his city because it’s one of the hottest markets in the state for automotive technology companies. “We’re fast becoming the corporate tech center for this part of Michigan, with high-profile companies like Daimler-Chrysler, Volkswagon and Continental Tire. Inergy will just be another good addition.”

The project cost is expected to be $17.17 million
