PHOENIX-Retail giant Target is aiming to find a parcel in the West Valley to locate a warehouse that could be as large as 1.5 million sf.

The Minneapolis-based company is considering the West Valley for one of its distribution centers but has yet to close a deal, says company spokeswoman Kristen Jahnke. But real estate sources tell that Target may have drawn a bead on a parcel at the corner of 75th Avenue and Van Buren Street.

The parcel, near Interstate 10, is owned by San Francisco-based Catellus Development. The land is under a lease to Sacramento, Ca.-based Buzz Oates Development.

The West Valley has become increasing popular with warehouse users, thanks in part to its abundance of relatively inexpensive land and its close proximity to I-10 and I-8. Nearly every grocery store chain in the Valley has space in the area, as does retailer Petsmart and the US Postal Service.
