"Stop & Shop is proud to be continuing our investment in thecity of Holyoke," says Karen Buckley, real estate developmentmanager for the Quincy-based supermarket chain. She notes that thecompany is already constructing a new Stop & Shop onNorthampton Street, one slated to open in December. That project isestimated at $6 million.

Holyoke Mayor Michael Sullivan predicts that the twosupermarkets and new retail plaza will help revitalize the city,which has suffered from a lack of investment for most of the pastdecade. The two projects will collectively result in more than 200construction jobs and 250 permanent positions.
