The council was acting on a recommendation of city planningstaff, which wants to review land use policies in the redevelopmentarea. The decision is being postponed until mid-November.

The city currently has eminent domain authority over 127 parcelsof about 1,700 acres of land covered by the redevelopment plan. Acenterpiece project of the plan is a $27 million effort to continuethe transform of a stretch of Marina Boulevard into a thriving"auto row."

The city made more than $600,000 in sales tax revenues from thefirst group of dealerships that opened there in 1998. The cityhopes to gain another $500,000 after two new dealerships open nextyear, and use the additional revenue for parks, senior housing andyouth programs.
