The historic landmark designation Downtown will enforce specialdesign standards for new construction or renovation to reflect thearea's history. The historic landmark status essentially does thesame thing to specific buildings all over the city, but also makesavailable property tax breaks and other incentives in exchange forthe inconvenience. Finally, the height restriction limitsconstruction along Leary Way to three stories, thereby maintainingthe street's historic integrity.

The properties receiving mandatory historic landmark designationinclude the former Lodge Hall on Leary Way, Anderson Park; the BillBrown Saloon/Redmoor Corp. Bldg.; Brown's Garage, Justice WhiteHouse; Stone House; Oddfellows Hall/Edwardian Antiques; PerrigoHouse/Eagle Rim Clubhouse; Redmond Cemetery; Redmond MethodistChurch; Redmond Bank/Brad Best Realty; Redmond Trading Company;Conrad Olson farmstead; Hutcheson homestead; Old RedmondSchoolhouse; and Haida House. A 17th property was removed from thelist because most of the Council members thought the building wasnot structurally sound.
