Though new construction virtually disappeared in the mid-1990s,hotel developers are now clearly making up for lost ground. TheAtlas study says that this year alone, seven hotels have alreadyopened and two more will debut by December. That's the highestlevel of activity since 1991, the report says.
Separately, another report says a record $125 million wasgenerated through hotel room taxes in fiscal 2000. That was a solid7% increase from a year earlier, the study by the San DiegoConvention and Visitors Bureau says.
