With an $8 million upgrade in the works, three supermarketchains are courting the mall for its new space. Safeway,Albertson's, and locally operated Gateway Foods have all expressedinterest in locating at Eastmont.

Plans on tap for the renovated Eastmont center include a new50,000-sf building that the grocers are vying for, a 20,000youth-oriented department store and a four-story senior housingcomplex with 10,000 sf of retail space. A building that once held aFood Co. market on the property is being destroyed.
