Local officials believe the original investment will be followedby expansions at the site. The building, located on U.S. Highway 70has been vacant for the past 10 years.
The company, which operates 30 plants in North and SouthAmerica, owns an existing plant in the area. Meridian boughtCambridge Industries Inc. for $363 million last July. Cambridgeoperates a 62,000-sf auto components plant in Newton, about 50miles northwest of Charlotte.
