One of the buildings once served as the headquartersfor the Merchants & Mines Transportation Co. while the otherwas home to Sun Life Insurance Co. A temporary injunction stoppedthe late-night activity.

But the demolition attempt has not been directly linked toMarriott, which has a track record of respect for local history inits choice and treatment of new builds.
