The local Hughes operation is a subsidiary of Hughes SupplyCorp., which operates in more than 30 states. The company sells200,000 construction-related items.

Scott Technologies, a fire and aviation safety equipment maker,is scouting the region for a new and larger headquarters site forits Monroe plant, which now employs more than 400. Scott plans tospend up to $11 million for a complex that would include a buildingof at least 200,000 sf.

The Monroe City Council is considering incentive packages thatwould encourage both companies to stay in the area.
