During a meeting with officials from Presidio Trust, the federalnonprofit governing the 224-year-old former military post, NPSregional head John Reynolds expressed the agency's opinion that thesize and design of the 900,000-sf project is wholly incompatiblewith the Presidio National Historic Landmark District.

The Trust, which says it will take the information intoconsideration, was expected to approve the project in the next twomonths. Construction was expected in spring 2002. Under theproposal, Lucasfilm would pay $5 million a year in rent for itscenter, slated for the abandoned Letterman Army Hospital on LombardStreet, near the Presidio's eastern entrance.
