The Fujitsu acreage, bought from Hillwood Development Corp., issituated across the street from a 100-acre holding in the ShilohBusiness Park, where the corporation is now in its 16th year at thesite. The acreage will be developed into additional corporateoffices and research and development facilities for its SynchronousOptical Network transmission products, expansion of a Photonics Laband added space for a growing service business.

Construction plans and design are undetermined for what is beingdescribed as "an aggressive expansion plan." A corporate sourcetold GlobeSt.com the purchase has taken place now to prevent thepossibility of getting landlocked to the degree that supplementaloperations would have to be located apart from the existing834,000-sf campus. "The primary objective was to get the land andthen go from there," says the Fujitsu source.

"With the rapid depletion of large tracts of commercial land inRichardson, particularly in the Telecom Corridor, we saw thisacquisition as critical to the growth of our business," says RonMartin, Fujitsu's COO and executive vice president. "This purchasereflects Fujitsu's commitment to the future of our company, to thecity of Richardson and to the Telecom Corridor."
