With the annexation, the city could be hoping to replicate thesuccess many suburbs have had in developing commercially aroundcorporate airports. The hottest area for new business andcommercial development during the past few years has been in andaround the Scottsdale Airpark in north Scottsdale.The parcel iseast of the General Motors Proving Grounds, a facility GM shut downlast year, between Ray and Warner, and Power and Hawes roads. Theland is virtually vacant.
