The O'Hare expansion project, which is expected to take up toeight years to complete, will involve construction of two newterminals with more than 20 gates and the reconfiguration of theexisting Terminal 2 building. At a press conference last night,Assistant Aviation Commissioner Kitty Freidheim announced that thecity intends to raise the air travel tax by $1.50 to $4.50 perticket in order to fund the huge project.

According to published reports earlier this week, AmericanAirlines and United Airlines, the two biggest users of O'Hare'sfacilities, have signed on to the expansion plan.
