MIAMI BEACH, FL-R. Donahue Peebles acquired the 5.3-acre Bath Club at 5937 Collins Ave. last year for $9 million or $1.7 million per acre ($38.98 per sf). But he ran into objections from the city over a requested zoning upgrade to turn an historic property into what he envisions as “posh Fisher Island without a ferry.” The city commission voted 5-1 for preliminary approval. Final OK is up for a vote in November.

The 112 condo units will be priced from $650,000 to more than $2.5 million, according to the developer. Six oceanfront villas will be marketed for $3 million and up. Sales begin in December.

Resort condo hotels are becoming an increasingly popular development along the South Florida oceanfront. Several projects are planed at Sunny Isles Beach, while others are in the construction pipeline at nearby Fort Lauderdale Beach.
