City Councilman Terry Johnson says he will vote for the proposedproject by Manchester Resorts to build a 450-room hotel near thewater's edge. Another developer, Jim Watkins, plans to buildtimeshare condominiums next to the hotel.
Doug Manchester, principal for Manchester Resorts, and Watkinsand Johnson met with reporters at City Hall Wednesday to announcethe councilman's change of heart. Previously, Johnson maintainedthat the project infringed on beachfront park space. The stateCoastal Commission also expressed concerns about the plan.
But Manchester has since moved the project away from the beach,so it probably will not require Commission review. The city planstohold a workshop sometime in the future to receive public commenton theplans.
