The provision is part of a pending bill that is a part of thefiscal2001 Department of Interior appropriations. This year, theTruman buildingwas the only Missouri structure to receive federalhistoric preservation funds.The building honors Harry Truman, anIndependence, MO resident, and the33rd President of the UnitedStates, who served from 1945 to 1953.

Independence will need to raise $350,000 to complete theproject. Salestax from the city will raise $1.75 of the $4 millionneeded. A contractfor the restoration work will be awardedMonday.
