More than 160 laboratories at eight locations throughout thecountry will be consolidated into two buildings on the property,and a shipping, receiving and warehousing facility will beadded."On the grounds, they're going to take about 100 researchtrailers and make a new building for the workers," says GerryHolmes, a GM spokesman.Labs that support vehicle development andintegration activities will be consolidated at the Milford site,saiys Frank Colvin, vice president and group director ofengineering for the GM North American Car Group.

"By reducing the number of sites, we'll be able to improveresponse time, reduce structural costs and increase the sharing ofresources and prototype properties," Colvin says.Other ProvingGround improvements include new entrances and expanded parking. GMPowertrain operations in Brighton will also be moved to the Milfordcampus.
