PALO ALTO, CA-Santa Clara County is releasing its comments this week on Stanford University’s first-ever community plan.

The comments are being released Tuesday along with comments on Stanford’s land use permit and the final environmental impact report. They call for preserving Stanford’s 2,000 acres of foothills for 25 years, or until the university expands its core campus by five million sf. The university only wants to make a 10-year commitment.

The overall Stanford plan proposes 3,000 new housing units for students and faculty. Stanford’s overall plan, if approved, will result in 4 million sf of academic and housing development in the next decade, increasing campus density by a third.

The county planning commission will meet Oct. 18 and 19 to go over its staff’s findings and make a final recommendation to the county supervisors. The supervisors will vote on Oct. 31 to accept the plans.
