The 506-acre property lies north of the city limits, betweenInterstate 5 and Stearns Lane. The group filed some of thenecessary paperwork to create the 250-acre Oak Hills IndustrialPark this summer, saying an Oregon corporation is seeking expansionspace for a computer chip manufacturing plant.

Sutherlin city manager Don Moore could not be reached forcomment Friday. The city held a public hearing on the AlaskaSutherland Knolls proposal last month. Another hearing on theproposed park is scheduled for Oct. 17. The group says it hopes tobe in the ground next spring.

If the property owners succeed, the next order of business wouldbe getting the property included in the Sutherlin-Oaklandenterprise zone, which offers property and state income tax breaksfor 15 years, instead of the usual three- to five-year property taxexemption.
