PHOENIX–A California hotel developer plans to build a 102-room business hotel in midtown Phoenix.

Campbell Motel Properties Inc., based in Brea., CA, has tied up a 2.3-acre parcel at the southwest corner of Central Avenue and Virginia Place. The company wants to build a four-story, 102-room Wingate Inn.

If the hotel were built, it would be the first hotel built in the midtown area in more than a decade.

The company is currently taking its plans through the zoning and planning process.Construction could begin as soon as zoning is approved, which could come as quickly as the first quarter of next year.
