Steve Becker, executive director of the Golden Urban RenewalAuthority, says there have been other infill projects in Golden inrecent years, but nothing comparable in size to Clear Creek Square.About 10% of the project cost is coming from the city's urbanrenewal authority.

The project, scheduled for completion in a year, includes 60,000sf of office space, 20,000 sf retail space, 72 residential unitsand a parking structure with more than 300 parking spaces. "This isa unique project for our community," says Carol Harwood, theauthority's chairwoman. "We conducted more than 200 public meetingsand looked at nearly 10 different plans to create a facility thatwill not only enhance Golden's economy, but also will berepresentative of our city's historic character." Residents andbusinesses in Clear Creek Square will have quick and easy access tothe Clear Creek nature trail and kayak run.

New Global Telecom, an international telecommunications company,will lease most of the office space for its world headquarters. Thecompany, which employs about 250, formed a joint venture withDenver-based McBroom Co. to develop the project, which is beingdesigned by Humphries-Poli Architects PC of Denver.
