Symbol plans to buy the former 14,200-sf United States PostalRemote Encoding Center here and convert it into the RuralSoutheastern North Carolina Technology Center.

The company expects to pay about $725,000 or roughly $51 per sffor the vacant building. The price is considered a bargain bySymbol founder/CEO Michael Cummings because the structure hasexisting fiber-optic lines and multiple computer connections.

Symbol anticipates closing on the building by year end. Thecompany is considering renovating parts of the structure andexpanding the space to 19,500 sf.
