City officials may begin collecting fees from commercialdevelopers in order to raise money for affordable housing. The areahas been booming ever since companies began flocking to SiliconValley's eastern edge to avoid higher rents closer to the area'sheart. The City Council began studying such fees late lastweek.

Sources say that affordable housing is severely needed in thearea. There were no affordable homes built in the area during lastyear.
