HIGH POINT, NC-Backers of the Furniture Mart of America, a planned 1.5-million sf wholesale center in Las Vegas, are rolling the dice and hoping they come up with a winner in attracting several North Carolina retailers and manufactuers to their startup operation.
The Nevada operation is contacting prominent Carolina retailers/manufacturers such as the Catawaba Furniture Mall of Hickory, NC and Atrium Furniture Mall and Furnitureland South, both of High Point, NC, long considered the furniture-making capital of the United States.
The Vegas project, scheduled to open in early 2002, would be almost twice the size of Furnitureland South and more than four times the size of either the Atrium or Catawaba malls. A second project, the International Furniture Trade Center, is also planned by the Furniture Mart entrepreneurs, headed by Jack Kashani.
