Honeywell will receive a $20-million management fee to runthegovernment-owned plant, which has been active since 1949.Components suchas non-nuclear electronic, mechanical and metalpieces that keepexisting nuclear weapons operating are manufacturedat the facility.

"We conducted a rigorous, competitive solicitation to choose theteambest equipped to manage and operate this key component of thenuclearweapons complex," read a statement released by EnergySecretary BillRichardson.

Previously, the plant had operated under the name ofAlliedSignal Inc.and Bendix Corp. before that. It is located at2000 E. Bannister Road.About 3,000 people work at the plant. Duringthe mid 80's, the plant hada workforce nearly three times thatsize. Honeywell has announced a planto add about 250 jobs.
