The old warehouse, 2205 McKinney, is approximately 80 years old.It was formerly used by Herrin Moving and Storage, but it has beenvacant in recent years. The redevelopment group is led by GordonJumonville and Duncan Shantz, who have developed other downtownresidential projects.

Prices for the residential units will range from $157,000 toapproximately $400,0000. The Herrin will be within walking distanceof Enron Field, a new retractable roof stadium where the HoustonAstros baseball team began playing this year.

The baseball stadium has encouraged a great deal of landspeculation and multifamily residential development. A number ofthe old commercial buildings near the stadium have been given newlife as loft apartments. The trend fits with a desire by homebuyersto move close to Downtown to avoid long commutes from the suburbsand to be close to urban nightlife and cultural events. Most of thenew urban dwellers have been young single professionals andempty-nester couples with no children.
