ORLANDO-About 1,000 deal-makers, big hitters and commercial real estate professionals of every stripe are attending the annual conference here today of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties. It’s the industry’s premier event.

The highlight of the three-day working sessions at the 750-room Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort will be entrepreneur H. Wayne Huizenga’s presentation this evening of NAIOP’s Developer of the Year award to Terry W. Stiles, chairman of Fort Lauderdale, FL-based Stiles Corp.

Leading industry names are scheduled to deliver and discuss topics of crucial importance to brokers, developers, owners, lenders, appraisers and marketers over the three-day schedule.

Leading off the agenda today is Richard Buday, president of 14-year-old Archimage Inc. of Houston, TX. Buday’s two afternoon presentations cover the 3D architectural approach to facilities, and the Web’s effect on the real estate industry. Con/Steel Tiltup Systems is sponsoring the Web topic event.

Keynote speaker at Thursday morning’s breakfast is Sheryl Pressler, the new CEO at Lend Lease Real Estate Investments Inc. Pressler came to Lend Lease from the Sacramento-based California Public Employees Retirement System, the nation’s largest public pension fund. Trammell Crow is sponsoring the breakfast.

The ins and outs of an entirely new industry, the burgeoning on-line listing services, will be kicked around in a panel discussion following the keynote breakfast. Bailey Webb, associate editor of the National Real Estate Investor, will guide a five-member panel on the who, what and where of the new breed of property listings.

Panelists are Dennis DeAndre, CEO, LoopNet; Richard Polos, senior vice president, Strategic Relations RealtyIQ.com; Kevin Travers, COO, Comro.com; John Place, executive vice president, CoStar Group; and John Stanfill, president/CEO, PropertyFirst.com.

Commercial real estate’s dot.com world of finance takes center stage in a second one-hour panel session Thursday sponsored by the Trane Co. Steve Felix, vice president, Institutional Real Estate Inc., is the moderator.

The newest wrinkles in on-line mortgage, equity and securitization services will be challenged and defended by panelists Don MacKinnon, president, TheRealm.com; Benjamin Milde, CEO, CapitalEngine.com; Lisa Max, CEO, Redbricks.com; and Heather Shively, CEO, CapitalThinking.com.

The Thursday afternoon sessions are information-loaded. James Young, president, the Jamesan Group, will offer a detailed rundown on the next generation of tech players. A capital markets update will follow, disclosing who is buying and who is selling these days.

That panel will be moderated by Steven Pumper, president, Owner Advisory Services, Transwestern Commercial Services. Panelists are Thomas Garbutt, managing director/group leader, Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America; Thomas McWhirter, CEO, TMW Real Estate Group; Manuel de Zarraga, managing partner, Sonnenblick-Goldman; and David J. Gilbert, general partner, Chase Capital Partners.

How to sort through the hype of the telecommunications industry and commercial development proponents is the topic of Thursday’s final panel session. John Lee Brewerton III, an Orlando attorney, is the moderator. Panelists are John McKay, Florida state senator, District 26; Terry Mueller, CEO, Resource Technology Management; and Donald Svoboda, director, telecommunications development, MetLife Real Estate Investment. Three panel discussions highlight the final day of the conference. New trends in office and industrial construction and development will be moderated by Michael Lowe, vice president/operations, Lowe Enterprises. Panelists are Cameron Falconer, project manager, Hines Interests Inc.; Timothy Gunter, COO, Industrial Developments International; and John Murphy, senior vice president, Cousins Properties Inc.

The final Friday morning session puts the limelight on the current economy and where it’s headed. Will Mundinger, vice president, Archon Group, is the moderator. Panelists are Jacques Gordon, managing director/research, LaSalle Investment Management Inc.; Gregory Leisch, CEO, Transwestern Delta Associates; and Louis Taylor, managing director and senior real estate analyst, Prudential Securities.
