MCLEAN, VA-Capital One persuaded the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to approve its headquarters building in Tysons Corner, but the company won’t stand as tall as it planned in the massive office complex.

The board approved the building after trimming its 220-foot height to 215, taking five feet off the penthouse and shaving another five feet from the main building. The building will total at least 450,000 sf.

Residents at the nearby and longstanding Regency and Encore condominium buildings were concerned that the 14-story building would obstruct their views. Tony Calabrese, an attorney for the Falls Church-based credit card marketer, called the decision a “reasonable compromise.”

Route 123, Interstate 495 and Scotts Crossing Road bound the 28-acre site, which is planned to include four buildings. Demolition on the buildings presently there has already begun.
