Opponents showed up en masse at a recent public meeting to speakout against the project and show off some 2,200 signatures so fargathered in opposition to the project. Consultants for the project,without printed plans, say the project would be like no other HomeDepot ever built. Company officials say they envision something onthe order of the Zupan's Market on Belmont Street, which sits atthe base of a condominium development at the corner of 33rd AvenueSoutheast.
Zoning on the property allows for the use. The company says itplans to meet with residents several more times before finalizingplans and submitting them to the city for approval. The look of thebuilding would be dealt with next year during a review by thecity's design commission.
