The new Health Department building, to be located at 412 LillyRd., will be constructed on a 2.3-acre site that the countyrecently purchased from the Garnett J. Davis and Iler AndersonTrusts for $470,000. The county is preparing its request forproposals now and hopes to begin construction on the building early2001 and complete it in fall 2001. County officials estimate thebuilding will cost between $3.5 million and $5.5 million.
The Health Department is currently housed in a 16,000-sfbuilding at 529 W. Fourth Ave. The county sold it in August 1999 toKBI Northwest Inc. for $1 million. Once vacated by the department,the building will be demolished to make room for a four-storyoffice building.
