CONCORD, NC- Concord Mills Mall, about 10 miles north of Downtown, is destined to stay in the success lane, fueled by an increase in shopping traffic and other land developments in the region. The mall has had 14 million visitors since opening in 1999, with shopper traffic up about 6% this year over last year.

The mall expects to see as much as $300 million in sales this year, but general manager Ray Soporowski thinks the mall has failed to fully target the teen-age market. Mall operators also want to add name retailers such as Jones New York and Guess. A Liz Claiborne shop is scheduled to open soon and Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue are also expected to add their names to the list.

Development on the perimeter of the mall also continues at a rapid pace. New retail outlets are springing up, some expected to open before Thanksgiving. First Citizens Bank will open a branch early next year. Other retailers, restaurants and community service firms are in various stages of development.
