The 60,000-sf project is being developed at 90 Central Way, nearthe Kirkland waterfront. Keith Maehlum, president of developmentfor West Water Real Estate, declined to disclose the cost of thehotel, but he did say the project has been in the works for fiveyears but had been delayed due to a moratorium.

The hotel is being constructed on top of and behind an existingone-story building owned by West Water Real Estate. One of thebuilding's two existing tenants, Cucina Presto, part of a chain ofrestaurants located in the Puget Sound region, has opted to closeits doors rather than sit through a year's worth of construction."They elected to leave and we agreed to terminate their lease,"says Maehlum, noting that the restaurant owners would have beenobliged to make improvements to the building had they stayed.
