The project will include office and retail space, 116 affordabletownhomes and a parking garage. But the developer and cityredevelopment agency must help several businesses and apartmenttenants move before the project can begin early next year.

The project is part of Urban Village, a six-year-old,$100-million redevelopment project to restore blighted inner-cityneighborhoods.

The San Diego City Council on Tuesday approved demolition at thesite, which is bounded by Fairmount and University avenues,Wightman and 43rd streets.
