Members of the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, aplanning partnership, believe the designation will brightenexisting businesses and encourage new construction of qualitydevelopments.
Woodward Avenue, which runs from Detroit to Pontiac, wasdeclared a Michigan Heritage Route in March 1999. The route programis a locally driven program administered by the Michigan Departmentof Transportation to identify, protect, enhance and promote uniquescenic, historic and recreational qualities of state roads. Theroute designation can be used to stimulate and attractbusiness.
