"I promised to reduce taxes and I have done that despite anincreased burden from the state and federal governments of almost$55 million,'' said Spano. "At the same time we are investing inthe future of our seniors, our children and our environment. Wehave accomplished all this while securing our long-term financialstability. I truly believe we are a model for other counties.''

Among a host of proposals for the County Board of Legislators toconsider, Spano noted the success of the county's Office ofEconomic Development. He stated it has helped reduce the county'soffice availability rate from 16.5% in 1998 to 11.9% at the end ofthe third quarter 2000.

In addition, the County Executive is proposing that the Officeof Economic Development incorporate the Westchester CountyConvention and Visitors Bureau into its office. Currently, thebureau operates under a contract with The County Chamber ofCommerce and has its operations housed at The County Chamber'soffices at 235 Mamaroneck Ave. The Westchester Convention andVisitors Bureau has been the chief agency responsible for promotingthe county's hotel and tourism industries.
