Calpine and its development partner Bechtel Enterprises Inc.have said that the $400 gas-fueled power plant – which wouldproduce enough energy to power 60,000 homes - would help alleviateenergy shortages in the ultra-wired Silicon Valley. But the councilconcluded the plant was incongruous with the plannedlight-industrial uses for Coyote Valley, which includes theaforementioned project by Cisco Systems, who was a major opponentof the Calpine project for the same reason. Cisco is the largestemployer in San Jose.
