"Tim Carey has a long and distinguished record of service to thepeople of New York," said Governor Pataki. "With this appointmenthe will bring his considerable talents to bear on one of thecritical areas for New York today, the supply of reliable andaffordable electric energy."

Carey is president and chief executive officer of the Hugh L.Carey Battery Park City Authority in Manhattan. He oversees the92-acre planned community that is home of the World FinancialCenter, 35 acres of parkland and 7,500 permanent residents.

Carey began his public service in 1984 when he was elected tothe first of five consecutive terms on the Westchester County Boardof Legislators. In 1995, he was appointed Director of Legislativeand Intergovernmental Affairs for Governor Pataki. He wassubsequently appointed chairman and executive director of the NewYork State Consumer Protection Board. Carey is a member of the NewYork State Energy Research and Development Authority.
