Renaissance Zones Expanded, Deadlines Extended

LANSING, MI-Six communities make their tax abatement zones larger, and seven ask for more time for their zones, which have a significant track record in promoting development and job growth.

LANSING, MI-The Michigan Strategic Fund Board has approved Renaissance Zone boundary expansions for the cities of Battle Creek and Kalamazoo/Comstock Township, Cities of Muskegon and Muskegon Heights, City of Saginaw, Gogebgic/Ontonagon/Houghton Counties, and the City of Grand Rapids. In addition, Berrien County/City of Benton Harbor/Benton Township, City of Flint, City of Saginaw, Gogebic/Ontonagon/Houghton Counties, and Gratiot and Montcalm Counties received Michigan Strategic Fund Board approval to extend their time clocks and/or add new subzones and await final approval from the State Administrative Board in December. As of September, Michigan’s Renaissance Zones have spurred 180 projects, with a combined private investment of more than $736 million and created more than 5,300 jobs.
